destruction of living tissue with an electric spark

Fulguration--the destruction of living tissue with an electric spark--is a procedure used to remove lesions.  This may be performed as treatment for bladder ulcers or bladder tumors (benign or cancerous).  During bladder fulguration, a cystourethroscope or resectoscope is inserted through the urethra into the bladder, and a high-frequency current is passed through an electrode to burn and destroy the abnormal tissue.
